HCS Foster/Companion Care is provided in a home, leased or owned, that meets the State HCS program requirements and in which the Foster Care provider and the client(s) may reside together. Foster Care providers cannot have more than three clients.
Foster/Companion Care providers assist clients with grooming, eating, bathing, dressing and personal hygiene. Participants in this program also receive assistance with meal planning and preparation, housekeeping, medications, ambulation and mobility.
Foster Care Providers either secure or provide transportation, reinforce counseling and therapy activities, assist with supervision of recipients’ inclusion in community activities and the use of natural supports and typical community services.
Participants in the Foster Care Program become part of a family. In this setting, they enjoy rich and rewarding experiences through social interactions, loving support and participation in leisure activities. They also receive habilitation which is provided in conjunction with other assistance to support the development of daily living and independent living skills.
Foster Care Providers must meet HCS employment criteria and be trained in First Aid, CPR, PMAB, medication administration and receive training for the specific needs (i.e. diabetes, g-buttons, etc.) of their clients. Written documentation is required.
