There were several guests who came out to play and to help. Cherita Andrews,
a contestant on The Biggest Loser, was on hand to visit and give out fitness
tips. In October 2009, Cherita and her daughter, Victoria, were chosen as
contestants, but Cherita was eliminated on her first day at the the ranch in
a challenge that proved her to be the least fit of all competitors. However,
she did
not give up! As she boldly stated at her public weigh-in, "Failure is NOT an
option". Cherita quickly went to work to create her own ranch at home. She
educated herself, found a local trainer and went to work to develop the
skills necessary to succeed. She was disciplined, worked hard and never gave
up. Like most Americans, she did not have the help of the "Ranch", but she
learned how to do it on her own. When she started her journey, she
considered herself to be in pretty good shape, but once she faced the brutal
facts she found the passion and drive to make the right choices and finished
the race strong, losing over 100 pounds. Now she is committed to helping
women of all ages tear down the excuses and seize the opportunity to be Fit,
Fabulous and Free!
Winston
Dutchin, Executive Sports Producer, reporter and anchor for KPRC Local 2
sports spent the day on the golf course with us, but before teeing off he
opened up the tournament and introduced the Forgotten Angels choir. The
Angels were especially surprised and excited to meet someone that they had
seen on tv!
Also on the course was former Golden
Gloves champion Maurice "Termite" Watkins and wrestling great Booker T!
After his successful boxing career, Termite Watkins went into the pest
control business, which led him to Iraq in 2003. The soldiers needed help
with many desert pests, and Termite answered the call. Consequently, he was
on hand when the Iraqis were preparing to compete in their first Olympic
championship since the 1960s. He was asked to lead a boxing team and he put
his past experience to work training Iraqi citizens to compete.
You can read more about Termite here.
Booker T began his
career in 1993 with the WCW as part of a tag team with his brother, Stevie
Ray. He has many titles and accomplishments and continues to wrestle but
also runs the Pro Wrestling Academy in downtown Houston. The Pro Wrestling
Academy is committed to safe and high quality training to aspiring
professional wrestlers. Booker and his wife, Sharmell, founded Booker T
Fights for Kids Foundation to provide opportunities and support for youth.
An immediate goal of the Foundation is to build a 24-hour community center
that will provide educational and recreational activities for kids.
Termite Watkins and Booker T are pictured here with Dr. Donald Brown, principal of Alvin High School and founder of Believe Incorporated and James Ware, case manager at Forgotten Angels.
